Sofia Duchovny presents a frosted hallucination across the windows and glass door of 20 Albert Road. This singular intervention stages an exhibition preview in action, building on the artist’s concern with appearance and reality, as well as the expectations placed on an exhibiting artist. The relative transparency of the printed vinyl causes the visitors to blend with the image, meaning sociality in the exhibition becomes the focus of the work.

The composition vanishes into a kind of translucent gauze, an effect similar to that of Duchovny’s series of folding sculptures, which utilise tent poles and tulle fabric to produce a substantial presence by frugal means. A version of this work was previously shown while the artist was on a residency at Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral, Bad Ems in 2022, suggesting its potential to be staged again in the future. Another mirage of activity, another place and time.

Sofia Duchovny works in a range of media with a focus on sculpture and installation. Duchovny holds a Meisterschüler from HfbK Städelschule. She did her Erasmus in Glasgow and participated in the BPA// Berlin Program for Artists. Her work has been shown at n.b.k. Berlin (2023), Kunsthalle Mannheim (2020), Halle für Kunst Lüneburg (2020), Kunsthalle Aarhus (2019) and Kunstverein Göttingen (2019). She lives in Berlin.
