We enter the read-along. Insert the CD-ROM. My CD Romance. It’s Sally, it’s Alice, it’s Laura. It’s baby, B-A-B-Y, true angel snow star. A cadre of country bumpkins. A point-and-click adventure. On the court, on the lawn, in whisper country. We play a game. The game is checkers. The game is Alice. The game is XXX. Before we became networked, we were smitten only with a graphic choreography, a set of outcomes, not chance. Rendezvous with a stranger. Unsportsmanlike interest. Private classics. A limited set, a repetition of elements creates the illusion of choice.

We take the world for a ride. An interactive museum. Another furry tale. The princess of the court. The kind of girl who’s gonna make you wonder. On the hood, in the car. Who you’ve been and who you are. Hard candy, candy apple. And who I’ve been is with you on these beaches. These halls. These highways. These passages. One hundred percent.

– Esra Soraya Padgett

Flannery Silva (b. 1991, Stone Ridge, NY) is a Los Angeles-based artist. Burrowing deep into commercial and intimate fantasies, Silva’s work explores shifting narratives of beauty and brutality, engaging with the feminized machinery of the selfie, accoutrements of girlhood, and the digital avatar as a rehearsed language of symbols that translates damage into gestalt. Silva also makes pop country music under the alias F.G.S., and was previously a part of the duo Odwalla1221 with artist Chloé Maratta.
