‘Céline is proud to present a selection of works from the personal archive of UK underground cartoonist, artist, journalist and musician Edwin Pouncey aka Savage Pencil.

Since 1977, Pouncey has been self-pubishing, designing, illustrating and drawing. His instantly recognisable comix strips have appeared in magazines including Sounds, The Wire, Kerrang!, NME and many others.

He has designed album covers, t-shirts, posters and merch for bands, music magazines and record labels for over 40 years, working with Sunn O))), Earth, Sonic Youth, The Fall, Big Black, Laurel Canyon and Fuckwolf, among countless other heroes of alternative music.

Worx on Paper focuses on Pouncey’s drawing practice. Dating from 1980 to 2022, each drawing has been intuitively selected with Pouncey, based on a story, memory or moment in time. The vitrines include raw studies, preparatory sketches and subconscious drawings, some have becomes his most infamous worx, others have never left the archive.

“I just clear my consciousness, narrow my eyes and start flailing around witha. pencil on a black piece of paper. It gets interesting wehen shapes start to appear out of nowhere, strange animals, alien creatures, amorphous faces and forms.” – Savage Pencil in conversation with Timothy d’Arch Smith, Rated SavX, p.23′
